What do I do in case of a dental emergency?

Toothache

If no underlying issues are present please take an Over-the-Counter pain reliever (like Tylenol or Ibuprofen) as recommended on the bottle directions. See your dentist as soon as you feel pain or discomfort. You may need a small filling, or something more complex. like a root canal or tooth extraction depending on the situation. Waiting too long may result in complications or infections.

Broken, Chipped, or Cracked Tooth

Keep your tooth fragment if possible. Wrap it in a wet gauze or small wet paper towel. Rinse your mouth with warm water and apply a cold compress to your face. Make a dental appointment as soon as possible.

Knocked-out tooth

If your tooth comes loose from trauma, there are a few things you need to do right away. First, DO NOT PANIC. Place the tooth in milk and call us to make an appointment as soon as possible. If you do not have milk, place the tooth under the tongue or in the corner of the cheek. DO NOT place it in ice, water, or let it dry out. You must be seen by the dentist within the next 12 hours to possibly save the tooth.

Broken Jaw

Apply ice or a cold compress to the face. Go to a Medical Emergency Center immediately.

Bitten tongue, Bitten Lip, Sores in the mouth

Keep the area clean. Mix 8oz of warm water with 1 tsp of salt. Mix well and swish for 30 seconds 3-4 times a day for 1 week. Schedule an appointment for an evaluation as soon as possible.
